I have an Nvidia shield for now, and run Plex on unRAID. I will be moving to a HTPC one the shield goes tits up. For the most part, I consume my media from my PC, but if I’m using the TV, it’s currently my shield.

Also, they snoop on your HDMI signal if you have a Roku device, and push advertisements based on the media passing of HDMI. I will personally never own another Roku device.
If I were using Manjaro right now, at the first opportunity, I would be switching to something else. Too much enshitification happening everywhere, and people need to start voting with their “wallets” to stop these greedy fucks.
Are you trying to gatekeep Linux to only power users that use a CLI, are way above the average in computer literacy, and happen to know the nuances between Linux and other operating systems?
This is the kind of thinking that will prevent adoption to the masses. Linux doesn’t have to be stupid hard to use. There are specific distros like vanilla Arch for advanced users to tinker with and options like Manjaro and Ubuntu that are ideally functional out of the box for those that just want something to work.
What Manjaro is doing here is dumb AF, and should rightfully be heavily criticized, but you statement feels like your saying you should have to be a computer expert to use any Linux distro, and that’s dumb.
You misunderstand. I’m not using any centralized social media. Lemmy is my one and only. I’m saying It’s worth celebrating the small wins and encouraging companies to continue moving to models like this. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good.
Switching to vaping is less bad, and for me, it lead to me quitting all together. So to me, this is still a small win, and I like to celebrate small wins these days.
That’s fair. My next build will be AMD. I only switched to Linux the past December, and I already had my gear, so it is what it is for now. Further, my case is too small for new GPUs, so I’m riding my 2080ti to the end.
True, but Nvidia has come a long way and I believe announced support in the recent months, but don’t quote me on the last part. I have a desk and laptop both with Nvidia GPUs, and I don’t have any issues. Wayland did not work until 4-6 months ago, but everything is pretty stable now.
I’m so glad this happened. I really wanted to believe them when they said it was an error and would corrected. It appears that in relatively short order they addressed the issue, gave an explanation, an expectation, then nailed it. I hate when I recommend something, then have to backtrack because they changed.
I think that intune has the same control over Android as it does iOS. One a device is enrolled, it can be wiped and sandboxed apps can be approved or denied. I’m not sure about pushing apps to phones, I think the end user had to download it still. Regardless, is not about Microsoft and it’s control, it’s about China and their control, and Apple gets on their knees and opens wide.
The most popular stable Linux distros are no more difficult to understand than Windows to the average and below average user. If your dad still doesn’t understand XP, then he never will. Also, it means he is not a power user and can be shown where the internet button is on any OS.
Linux can run from a USB stick to try it out before committing to a full install.
Just because I have the service doesn’t mean I don’t also have backups some items.
I only have it because I have prime for shopping. If they were separate fees, I would not have streaming.
I would get rid of my old Roku that I’m sure is too old for this tech and urge everyone I know to never buy anything Roku, and if they did, I would lambast them every opportunity I could.
When I say electric is the same way, I mean that if it’s too cold to run the vehicle, it’s too cold to have school.
For sure. The ROI really isn’t there when it happens every couple of years. Like you said, they do call it off when it’s that cold. It’s not safe for kids that have to walk to the bus or school. The main thing is that electric is the same way, so it’s a moot point.
I grew up and rode the bus to school in Iowa. There were multiple days in my youth that local schools were closed because the diesel busses wouldn’t turn over. The guy that maintained ours used Amsoil, so our buses worked, but cold weather doesn’t only hurt electric vehicles.
There were reports over this past week over people having difficulties charging their electric vehicles due to the cold temps (-30°F wind chill and worse). All of the schools in the state were closed as well as many businesses.
Basically, it’s a self correcting issue. If it’s too cold to charge a battery, it’s too cold to have school.
Honest question here…
I was always under the impression that AliExpress is worse than Amazon. Now, Amazon is not good, I know that, but I guess the narratives I was fed is that AliExpress is like Wish, and just terrible, counterfeit/knockoff products (Amazon on that fast track), excessive data capture, and I thought CCP (probably confusing with Temu).
Anyway, can you quick explain how AliExpress is a less shitty Amazon? I’ll start doing some shopping there if that’s the case.
The difference between us giving him a benefit of the doubt and claiming innocence and your take, is that you are labeling him a pedophile without proof. That’s a significant claim if false, and imo takes an assumption too far. Maybe he’s bad and it should be looked into, but saying he did something because he was on a show with and good friends with a guy that happened to be a rapist is wrong.
