For me, it’s probably a toss up between Sekiro and Bloodborne. I’ve finished the games in their entirety probably around 4-6 times - either for their respective endings, just for fun, or trying to do a challenge run, like a BL4 Bloodborne run. Lies of P follows them closely at around 4 and soon 5 once the DLC rolls around.
Bloodborne and Sekiro were my first two soulslikes, and once it clicked, I was obsessed with both. I got platinums, watched video essays, listened to the OSTs all the time. They’re very near and dear to me.
What is your most-played soulslike?
Definitely DS2, I didn’t play Bloodborne(fuck you Sony) so I can’t judge but with all the other soulslike DS2 has more replayability.
You have tons of routes from Majula to go, can skip some bosses/areas, fight the same boss multiple times with bonfire aesthetic to skip a good chunk of the game or use it to farm souls, with the alternatives form of healing you don’t need to upgrade the estus flask so much. You had some bizarre mechanics like the spices to reduce spell/miracle requirements so you can use it even in a LVL1 Deprived build.
A true scholar! <3
Gotta be DS3. It was my first one and the game lets you treat it like a boss rush if you know it well, so I’ve got several NG+ cycles that were completed in a day each. It has less running around / travel time required than DS1 and 2.
Haven’t played Bloodborne (thanks, SONY) or Sekiro (soon tho).
Sekiro and Bloodborne for me too. DS1 in third
I keep thinking about replaying, but always end up distracted by something else. I have now two Playthroughs in sekiro, ds3 and bloodborne, and I doubt it’ll change soon. Most of my game time these days are during commute anyway, hard to carry a full-sized PC or console around
A Steamdeck would be pretty much what you’re looking for. Depending on how much you travel, might be worth a purchase if you don’t already have one.
What are you currently playing?
I got a switch as a birthday present a few years ago, so I’ve been waiting for the battery to go or for the steam deck oled to go on sale, whichever happens first. I spend an hour on the train every time I go to the lab, so it’ll be well worth it.
I’m playing Hades right now, even though I was planning on finishing Mario+Rabbids after putting it on pause for years lol. Although for Hades my skill ceiling might be around heat 15. I still win some but half of the runs are a slog.
Gotcha. A Switch is pretty much the next best thing, I recon.
I love Hades. I haven’t tried too many heat levels - I just played the game without any modifiers for the story. Really looking forward to Hades 2’s official release
The story combined so well with the gameplay, I love it. So I’ve stayed away from Hades 2’s early access so that I get the full experience the first time I play it.
