Germany’s domestic intelligence agency formally classified the Alternative for Germany as a right-wing extremist movement, meaning authorities will have enhanced powers to monitor the party as a potential threat to democracy.

The judgment by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution “is based on an extremely careful expert review spanning approximately three years” that examined remarks made by high-ranking AfD officials, according to a statement published Friday by Sinan Selen and Silke Willems, the office’s co-vice presidents.

What do you think will now happen? AfD will just disappear? East Germany will suddenly vote for conservatives or leftist? My point is - and it is funny that people don’t get it and just downvote me instead of engaging in a discussion - that it will very likely resolve nothing (I thought I am far away from the kindergarten in Reddit here, but it seems to be the same). You cannot stop a train just by painting it as “right extremist” - and I did not say that this is not true, but some are thinking presumably that THIS is the solution. It is not!

My point is simple: to bring this party and its poison down, you need to find the core problem and solve it. Otherwise you won’t take away people from the AfD, but you will make them support harder this party. This creates frustration and where this leads … just think about it a moment instead screaming against others. They have already surpassed the CDU thanks to stubborn people like you and others here.

“Exclusion of the right extremists”? you mean like, when the conservatives formed a coalition with them?

What do you think will now happen? AfD will just disappear? East Germany will suddenly vote for conservatives or leftist?

You didn’t exactly try to answer the question by @bennypr0fane there … making this part of your response seem a little disingenuous:

and it is funny that people don’t get it and just downvote me instead of engaging in a discussion

(Fwiw, I agree, acting on underlying issues such as social issues is really important. However, another one of the underlying issues is state financing of their propaganda, and that is now much easier to stop.)

I do not see your suggestion of how the problem can be solved otherwise. Anything else coming?
