Why target crypto only? If you’re in the market of committing awful crimes, why not go after CEO’s, at least then, some people will cheer for you.

For criminals? It’s because with crypto is easy to quickly steal a large amount and launder it afterward. Also it’s easy to know how much they have if they have your wallet address. So they can’t lie and say, “I just don’t have the money.”

Doesn’t seem very easy if they are kidnapping and torturing people. It seems like a lot of work either way. They can do the same to others and just have them convert a large sum of money into crypto and have it sent to them. It is an extra step, but again, if you are already kidnapping and torturing people it doesn’t really seem like much more.

Oh for sure, that’s how ransomware works.

The difference with crypto is someone knows how much someone has and they know it’s quickly available for transfer. They don’t have to wait a few days for the money, too. Like for coinbase someone has to wait 7 days after a deposit before being able to send it to an external address.
