But please give him money /s
Lol I actually got a reply from him last night in that thread, still trying to justify funding going to the echo chamber. I put my 2 cents in already though.
I use mbin… All these people whining about Lemmy being developed by tankies have a choice but yet they keep using Lemmy 🤡
I have an Mbin server acct. Pifed and miskey etc etc. A tool is a tool regardless of who made it. I have less issue with that than them saying funding must go to the echo chamber.
I really don’t care that a privileged Westerner who’s never really lived under the conditions of ML etc. Fantasies in their free time of being a soldier of the vanguard crushing dissent. It’s a character flaw, but there’s better things to be upset over.
If truth social, long ago forked from mastodon. Was somehow the main server of the developer of mastodon. And they we’re asking for funds that would be used on it. My response would be the same. It has nothing to do with left or right and everything to do with authoritarianism.
I considered moving to Mbin when Kbin went down (as I’d picked Kbin specifically because I was uncomfortable with the Lemmy devs’ fascist politics), but at the time Federation with Mbin was still borked, and I wanted to move my history communities quickly to keep casual history posting alive on the Fediverse.
Now the only thing stopping me from making the move again is that I hate to inconvenience the people in my communities and act like the comms are just property that I can pack up and shuttle over to a new instance whenever I feel like it, rather than a place of collective gathering and discussion (or, mostly, jokes since they’re meme and trivia comms).
But I like my instance…
There’s nothing wrong with your instance 😉 The reason for all the hubub bub was that an instance announcement went up on world at least. Soliciting for donations to the software development. Which no disrespect to @[email protected] or the world team. No one can ever be perfect. Nonetheless their professionalism and competency as always impressed. Not just with world. But with the other services that they manage as well. Unfortunately similar things cannot be said for the developers of the Lemmy software stack.
I understand the background I’m just explaining why I don’t want to migrate to mbin. There is no similar instance there to my knowledge.
Oh absolutely. There was one person that posted above with that stance. But that’s not really what we’ve been talking about in general. However it’s probably something that we all need to look at and address. As I don’t see a lot of future for a project that’s run like this one is unfortunately.
