I remember the Early Days of Gamergate when it wasn’t obvious that it was just Milo Yiannaopolus recruiting for the Neo Nazis.
Back when they actually stuck to the story of holding Game Journalists accountable for poor reporting.
I joined up and was actually kicked out because the guy in charge of the chapter for it took one look at me and said “Sorry honey, this is for gamers, not lonely females looking for boyfriends. GET OUT!”
I was pissed at the time, but I realized I dodged a fucking bullet.
Honestly I was in /r/kotakuinaction and mocked games journos for a bit, but after a while I just quickly noticed the nazis lurking around and bailed. Plus, the posts were just becoming more and more whiny, and from there I just thought “yeah everyone’s here a fucking loser, I’m out”.
Thankfully that realization made me slide away from the alt-right pipeline, nowadays I’m an anarchy-aligned libertarian socialist :)
How to avoid Nazis: if you find yourself surrounded by losers, leave.
I mean I’ve always hated Nazis, so as soon as I noticed their rhetoric was becoming commonplace I fucked off.
Yeah, hating on AAA games released where it is immediately apparent that half of the game was cut because they wanted to make some marketing deadline and they cut half the dev team the previous year for cost savings is justified. Calling out journos being bought with better access or straight up bribes is also justified. Games with content that is “pandering” without fleshing the world out, which should be insulting to the people being represented as well in a “hey fellow gays buy our game” is also bad.
But these people were upset with random single-dev games about mental health? It’s simply unfathomably stupid. Also, harassing anyone, game dev or journo is also pathetic.
I’ve been through enough bozos on both side who are so fascist in their mindset that Horseshoe Theory is fact to me
So yeah… Anarchy Aligned Socialism sounds good to me. No death camps no gulags
