I saw there was a thread about ad blocking on android but I was wondering the best methods for ad blocking that cover the entire phone if possible like in app ads and such as well.

Why limit yourself to just your phone, use a pi-hole and block ads for your whole network.
And when I’m out, I have a vpn running on the phone back to my home network and block ads on 4g/5g as well
Overkill
Proton VPN does block ads in apps. You’ll need to pay for the ad blocking though.
Some VPNs have options for adblocking (dns based)
