I honestly wish I liked mint because there’s such a robust community for it, but I really can’t stand it. My first Linux experience a decade back or so was Ubuntu and it felt -right- like android. I liked it very much because it did all the things I needed, and it felt good to use, like something I was familiar with (android!). The power file management was an absolute bonus and I just love it so much. But it’s based on iOS allegedly? I fucking hate iOS on mobile but maybe it’s the macOS? Idk. It’s not at all like iPhone iOS at least.
And I haven’t found the same experience on any other distro despite trying several, so here’s me back to Ubuntu every time… because it feels good to use.
And “Ubuntu bad because reasons” and I get that for not me, but I don’t have the energy to figure out how to make Debian do what Ubuntu just already does. And the really niche distros I’ve tried idk how to make work for my needs, as noob.
At least it isn’t windows…
I did this drunk the other day… apparently.
I mean I live alone and my cats aren’t helpful so I imagine it was me, but I have basically no memory of doing anything. I recently cut my drinking way way way down (from near-daily binge drinking to 2-4x/mth binge drinking and nothing other days), so maybe this was my drunk self trying to plea usefulness so I don’t abandon it entirely.
I woke up to a reasonably clean kitchen, living room, and nightstand, plus a hangover. These are not small tasks (as evidenced by the fact I didn’t do them sober), so really I just need to sort out the hangover thing and bam, adhd solution. Or something.

That one’s super risky tho. I have about 50/50 on stomach acid intrusion.
Have you ever sneezed away your nausea? That’s a good one. Bewildering, but I’m not arguing.
I’m with you on most of this except I’m the physical media person, and also run the Plex server for my f&f ;)
I’m going to be setting up a self-host game streaming server soon too, because I won’t -buy- digital-only… but I will pirate it and throw some money at the indie devs when I can!
Well sure, but we all know that’s not going to happen any time soon. So until then, approach from all available fronts.
If something like this actually works as designed, I’d like to see companies start to offer it free to employees, in much the same way a lot of them pay for financial planning services as part of the bennies.
With the amount of data brokers can have on people, and the sheer number of brokers, I could see something like this being a valuable component of a good enterprise security team. Help prevent social engineering breaches.
It would also disrupt the data brokerage model, and that’s a win.
Oh when did you install the camera in my pantry?
Ha! This is my new way of looking at my smart devices. I’ll sell you off if you don’t do what I want, and buy something that does. Very much a threat.
I recently factory reset all my Roku TVs, and didn’t connect them to the internet… and they work much better now.
Roku broke big time when I insisted on privacy. blocked the entire Roku domain, it broke the apps on a 1-month schedule like clockwork to get the network release for reinstall which allowed for phone home. lol no. I trashed it. They are dumb TVs now.
Am I the only one surprised there were even that many in the first place?
Meanwhile I want us to work on things that are actually personally fulfilling, instead of earning imaginary money for rich assholes to abuse and hold us down with.
If we were working on what we wanted to do, we’d do it as much as we had energy for. That might be once a week, or it might be every waking hour for 6+ months.
The important bit is “days per week” would be 0+. This is what I want for everyone. It’s why I fully support a UBI, along with socialized healthcare and housing.
You want to spend your time doing nothing but raise your kids? Great, do that super well and don’t worry about the “lost” income. You want to make art? Awesome, do it! You want to engineer a bridge, teach, be a doctor or nurse, grow crops, etc? We need that too, and in addition to your base UBI money you get extra for doing a socially needed job. Good for you!
My attic is over the detached garage, so I’d choose person hands down.
I probably wouldn’t know for a really long time, because I don’t use that space (the ladder up there is duct-taped where it cracked at some point, and since I don’t use it, I’m not about to replace it) it stays decently warm up there so less concern about finding a frozen corpse, and if someone did croak in the garage, the smell wouldn’t permanently be in the house.
But roaches would find their way into the house.
I run a pihole to block ads network-wide. I tried doing a general search for a bit of info on it and didn’t find much, but I guess my question is are the ads they run more like sponsored results, or like actual advertisements?
With the appropriate ! bang from the address bar
What does this mean? I want to like DuckDuckGo, but it’s kinda messy.
Hmm…. I hope not. This is from an adventure time game. It’s castle lemongrab’s prison cell toilet.

how does pop handle touchscreen devices, do you know? The only machine I have left that I’d install something different on is my laptop, and its touchscreen but fully discretionary. The others are a server which I’m not touching because PITA, and a shitty ram-deficient thing I use for watching Plex in my bedroom, but it doesn’t run anything well at all for whatever reason - I tried antixlinux, mint, and a few other lightweight distros, and they all ran like shit. Probably failing hardware, idk.
Ubuntu handles touchscreen and hdmi output ok, it seems, but that laptop is still windows for now because idk if I need it to be windows for my next job… I guess I can reinstall it, since keys are hardware encoded now… for that device I don’t -really- need good file management, just compatibility.
I’ve thought about pop, but never really looked into it because nobody ever, like, recommends it for anything I guess? Like I never hear about it…
