  • Axolotls are nearly if not already extinct in the wild. Hobbyists and researchers are the only thing keeping them in existence. Everyone adores seeing my axolotls and get emotionally invested in them almost immediately, which provides a very tangible in person thing for them to think about. It’s a good jumping off point for talking about what’s happening with lakes and rivers.

There are some things we shouldn’t take from the wild. Like I believe sourcing completely natural live rock is unethical as corals have it hard enough and it’s super easy to farm our own live rock. Some things it’s fine and can even help preserve them or teach people about conservation. I learned so much back when I took care of a marine tank. I have a much stronger understanding of how intricate and fragile our ecosystem can be and people should be allowed to learn and see that for themselves

  • The first 25 years of my life were a mess. Going through the wrong puberty not knowing why everything felt so bad, becoming an alcoholic, moving every year sometimes twice in a year. I’m early 30s now, making good progress transitioning, quit drinking, staying in shape, down to moving about every other year. This is so far way better than my teenage years or 20s

  • I’m an engineer who has done game dev work; we are not immune to being abused by the owning class. In the tech industry right now finding a new job isnt great when everywhere is firing, and not everyone is in a position to switch jobs (like me I can’t risk destabilizing my insurance right now so I’m locked in for at least 6 more months). More unions gives all unions stronger voice and tech workers could have a lot of sway and funds to put toward the class war if they’d stop thinking of themselves as above working class concerns. My work just spent the last few years making rock stupid decisions and everyone at the company knew it except for the execs, and when the axe came down the engineers and other workers here paid the price. The game industry is renowned for abusing workers in basically every way and I experienced a lot of that myself. Unions could fight against crunch time, get better pay and benefits for game devs, help keep studios from mass firing people after a game ships, etc.
