BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?11·20 hours agoI can tell you are a very frustrated person who doesn’t feel like they have any control over their life.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?13·1 day agoI am an american. you must not be, because if you were you would know, as I have previously stated, that the third parties weren’t viable. For practical purposes, it is identical to not voting at all.

BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?13·2 days agoYou’re right, I should have clarified; “The only options that had more than a snowflakes chance in hell of winning the election were option D and option R.”. how silly of me.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?42·2 days agoOk, then there is nothing more to discuss.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?2·2 days agoI’m afraid you might be correct on this because that will take years, if not decades.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?23·2 days agoDo you have a source for Harris supporting genocide? I’m ok with deporting people who are here illegally if they are given a fair trial and found to have committed crimes that warrant deportation. I would really like to know what your alternative options are, though, if you would mind answering my question from the previous comment. Although it’s beginning to seem more like you just want to argue with someone rather than have meaningful conversation, though I guess I should have realized that when you started name calling.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?2·2 days agoWhat do you think of a portential grassroots progressive takeover of the democratic party? Similar to what the tea party did with the republicans? If Bernie and AOC could form a coalition with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, maybe that could gain widespread popularity and push out the old guard democratic leadership?
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?2·2 days agoI’m worried a third party isn’t viable with the current election system we have, considering gerrymandering, electoral college, first past the post voting, and now Trump is attacking the federal election commission and judicial branch.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?25·2 days agoI apologize, when I said ‘option D’ I was referring to Kamala Harris during the last US presidential election, not Biden and I will not defend Biden for his actions (or lack there of) regarding the Gazan genocide. But no, I am not a bot, my post history should attest to that. On the other hand, what would you like people like me to have done differently last election to improve the situation? I would like to know all my options for the next election.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?26·2 days agoI don’t know what to tell you. There was option D that would have at worst made a show of an attempt to mediate between Hamas and the IDF and at best condemn and stop sale of weapons to isreal, and there was option R that was going to give the IDF complete reign to do whatever they wanted. I do the only things I can for now, which is voting, contacting my representatives, and protesting. Maybe that means I have no standards, I’m not sure.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?76·3 days agoI don’t know, I haven’t looked at all their policies or voting records or stances on the Gazan genocide. To be fair, all americans are party to genocide to some degree given the circumstances. But I think not voting for democrats because they dont go far enough to condemn Isreal, and stopping the sale of weapons to them only helps the republicans who are in favor of the genocide full sale. Unfortunately Democrats are just the lesser of two evils for now.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?61·3 days agoI agree with you on the vast majority of democrats, especially Chuck Schumer and his ilk, but the congressional progressive caucus as 100 members, I think that may be a strong enough foothold to shift the democratic party. Though that may be wishful thinking.
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?4·3 days agowe’ve had progressive policies in this country before when FDR was in office and for a decade or two afterwards, and I may be over optimistic but I think we can get there again as long as we still have the right to vote, although who knows if or for how long we’ll have that.
The insanely low turnout last election and record low polling on both sides of the aisle make me think trust in both sides of government are at an all-time low, which might make this the best time ever in this two party system for a third party to shake things up?
BilliamBoberts@lemmy.worldOPto Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•Why won't democratic leadership even try progressive policies?10·3 days agoBecause the billionaires who pay the politicians campaign funds dont want it because it would mean less money in their pockets. But billionaires won’t back a lame pony, and if democrats keep losing like this, their funding will run dry, right? What happens then? Can they still win if not backed by billionaires? I think the only option is to go grass roots for their funding and abandon neo-liberalism and go back to the people first approach of FDR.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
