There are SO many bots here, they just don’t seem to be impersonating people like on Reddit. They just automatically post stuff like news or mirrored Reddit posts.
Technology is just going to keep getting better, too. Running servers and storing lots of media will get cheaper and cheaper in the long run, even if there are ups and downs short-term. That means that more hobbyists will be able to run these types of services on a lower budget and less donations.
I’m not 100% sure on this, but unless there’s an actual system for it, IP bans are also infeasible on Lemmy, right? Since only your home instance has your IP, you can just switch to a different instance, even if the admins try to ban your IP.

In order for niche communities to have a sustainable flow of content, you need a massive amount of users overall. Another obstacle is that niche communities can’t grow much because with barely anyone in them, nobody has any reason to go to them.
I haven’t tried the store release, but an issue I had with the PWA was that it was too laggy if you scrolled a lot. It also occasionally jumped around and would make you lose your place if you visited a community, changed the sorting mode, and then went back to your homepage.
It should be illegal to restrict what people can do with their own goddamn motherfucking private property.
