I don’t really think ICANN should be based anywhere or really have any say, or I guess even exist at all. I’m a strong believer in a decentralized DNS system not controlled or designated by a single, all powerful entity. With how important it is and how much breaks if it gets compromised either by outside forces, or by internal corruption, it makes sense that something like this shouldn’t be so centralized and vulnerable.

Anyone else potentially see a problem in which a single organization oversees all name usage and can arbitrarily decide to break a good majority of the internet over stupid shit like this? Or are we all just fine with a single American based entity being able to decide what domains are valid and not?

I find it strange that many people here are against this when the alternative is a surgical treatment that often can’t be easily reversed, and even when it is, often lowers the likelihood they will have a kid.

Chemical solutions are way better in that regard because if they are done right they don’t damage any tissue and their affects are temporary.

Where did you get the idea that Oracle can see their source code? That only applies if they host their source repository on Oracle, if they host the servers there chances are it’s binaries that are hosted on the server not the source code.

Not exactly a bypass it’s more so destruction of property (your own property might I add, since there’s no clause that says you have to return it to the company at some point)

Yeah we’re definitely not at the point in time yet where it is illegal to vandalize your own things, hacking in some places, but vandalism of your own property not so much (exceptions only for rentals or leases, which TVs aren’t since you never need to return them).

They already have that it’s called click fraud or automated ad clicking, mostly though it’s websites that earned money from advertisers who engage in this, as a sleazy way of making more money.

Though if you want to partake in it there are ad blocking extensions that also do it. It’s not perfect but it is quite damaging to the advertising industry.

You can tear the wifi antenna off the board, and it’ll never connect again (not just unplug it from the card, actually tear it off the pads), could also remove the shield from the Wifi module as well for good measure and it would never get a good signal ever again.

If you’re feeling really brave you could even try removing or cutting the traces connecting the Wireless module to the main system bus, has diminishing returns though since it would be very easy to short or destroy the PCI bus rendering the system completely inoperable.

Probably injecting the ads into blank screen periods.

Maybe we should bring back screensavers, would really fuck with devices like this that look for blank screen time that would simply never occur.

Often they delete all images during the time frame of a CSAM attack, as that has been the only real feasible way to ensure images weren’t left behind. Though I think a few images have started using AI detection methods to remove images like that automatically (read up on that here and here), also Pict-rs now has a Log linking uploaded images to the user, so now images can be purged with the users.

I don’t know how true that is about YouTube intentionally CPU bombing ad block users specifically.

I will say though that websites run by big tech companies getting much heavier and more poorly optimized is ultimately just a fact of life. They don’t care about optimization, in fact it benefits them more that people have the latest and greatest hardware so that’s what they’re going to target. Ultimately that means that these websites will get slower on older hardware with time, and people will rely more and more on alternative frontends to access content, and it won’t really matter if you have ad blockers or not (*turning it off on a bloated site that is bogging down your CPU might actually make it worse).

That’s why you do the FOSS version, it’s designed to be easily upgradable and customizable to all your needs, and even on old hardware will still accept updates.

I don’t believe in that at all, human lives and the feelings associated with them are finite, the appreciation of art lasts as long as the canvas does which can be hundreds to thousands of years depending on what it is. The feelings they feel as the artist aren’t significant on that time-frame and whatever respect I have for them is irrelevant in that context. I believe in preservation even against the will of creators because it benefits future generations, for the same reason historical knowledge does and their feelings today do not.

People have told me I’d feel different if it was my art but not really (I find that argument incredibly presumptuous and condescending which is why I’m acknowledging them here before anyone has the chance to make them as some kind of comeback), I recognize the value of art and the fact that just like these other artists I won’t be around forever either.

Indeed it should, though there are many EV charging stations where it isn’t the case, especially in America. Tesla’s Charging locations are like that, they usually don’t have a canopy over the Chargers, which in my opinion doesn’t seem like a great practice because it exposes the machines to the elements and make them unpleasant for users when it’s raining or snowing.

Hopefully they will have it so that the EV charging stations included will be under canopies to protect them from the weather, as I know that that is a big problem with current canopy-less implementations.

I guess in that case I should probably seek out the counterfeit versions of it since they’re now apparently better than the originals.

At least it’s open for collaboration so people who can or help contribute to fix bugs for them are able to do so. That’s the beauty of open source, anyone can help out.
