Legalizing means FDA regulations to make drug use safer and more controlled, taxes off the spending which can be used to fund rehabs for people who decide to quit, gangs lose power and money, prison populations go down ruining fewer lives and costing society less, and less crime to support habits. There is no evidence drug use is deterred by prohibition. We have spent trillions on the war on drugs and drug use and deaths have not gone down. States marijuana was legalized have seen crime drop and people are taking safer drugs - no deaths from cut drugs and no exposure to criminals to get their fix. I fail to see the upside of drug prohibition. Society seemed to function when drugs were legal a century ago.
