Yea a surprisingly small number of people don’t know a git remote can literally be any folder outside of your tree, over almost any kind of connection.
I thought about doing a forge but realized that if I was the only one working on this stuff then I could do the same thing by setting my remote to a folder on my NAS.
It’s strange that Niantic is doing this when google has been doing the same thing with its own street map data.

Bluesky is not great, but it’s at least (for now) a better platform than X and the AT protocol is actually very well written. (For instance having a moderation service separated from the service that provides the posts I think is a hands-down better way to handle it than most ActivityPub servers having their admins handle all incoming and outgoing moderation)
Bluesky federation is just now getting started so it’ll be interesting to see if it goes anywhere/where it goes.

This is interesting but I’ll reserve judgement until I see comparable performance past 8 billion params.
All sub-4 billion parameter models all seem to have the same performance regardless of quantization nowadays, so 3 billion is a little hard to see potential in.
I seriously doubt the viability of this, but I’m looking forward to being proven wrong.

There’s also openrouter which can connect to ChatGPT with a token-based system. (They check your prompts for hornyposting though)
They should probably do the same with cascade, seeing as that license seems to be more restrictive as well
The problem is notably “powerful”, AIs need pretty significant hardware to run well
As an example the snapdragon NPUs I think can barely handle 7B models.
Seems like the thing I’ve always considered true: you can turn a mediocre game into a masterpiece with the right application of music.
Not that I’m saying Stardew is mediocre, but good music seems to uplift a game more than any other part.

Yea it’s the same for us, the complaints from people when they see a kid in public on a tablet are weird to me cause I know as kids we always had stuff like toys we brought into restaurants (or we went to restaurants with like coloring maps and stuff).
Parents have been desperately trying to find things to occupy kids while they’re in public so they don’t disturb the people around them for years and now that smart phones/ipads are universal it seems like there’s finally something that will just keep the kids quiet for awhile without a lot of effort.
I think it’s important to pay attention how much you/your kids are spending on “screen time” but it feels really disingenuous to say stuff like the current generation is cooked because of ipads.
Seeing as how the full unquantized FP16 for Llama 3.1 405B requires around a terabyte of VRAM (16 bits per parameter + context), I’d say way more than several.
