All I know is I appreciate their slow roll. Everytime they break something I replace it with the non-Google option. I’ve got a small nuc as my main HTPC tied into my plex. Been waiting for an excuse to swap my first Gen Google hockey Puck from like 2012 in my bedroom.
this thread is making me realize I’m clearly missing something. How do people actually use discord? Me and my friends basically use it as semi-permanent group chat. A few different topic areas, and no stupid android/ios compatibility issues. I’m also in two servers for some small clubs. Do people really use it the way they would lemmy/reddit?
For the record it absolutely is taxed as such. As soon as it vests the IRS considers it income, whether they sell it for the cash or not.
Its a huge headache for startups sometimes. I had team members I wanted to compensate but just giving them the equity would have been an imediate big tax bill on a non-liquid, and speculative, asset. There’s ways to massage it (like vesting) but he will absolutely have that taxed.
Oh, and I could be wrong but I think the share value is just taxed as ordinary income, not capital gains. Ie: if the award is denominated in $1 shares, which he sells for $1.10, the $0.10 gets capital gain rates (if he held it for a year) but the $1 is taxed just like a paycheck.
I don’t know the ins and outs. But I have a flipper and an android. It looks like the issue is on the UI more than overwhelming the hardware like a DDOS. My android gets a bunch of bogus connect attempts for random Bluetooth headphones that don’t exisit, but there’s enough time in between each to go in and turn off Bluetooth if you wanted. The iPhone made it so you just always had one, so you couldn’t do anything else with the phone.
Yeah, that one hit me weird also. Like there’s videos of him doing installs and stuff at other employees houses, so maybe that’s just a culture thing, but it’s still weird. Like can you imagine one of the late-night folks making a joke about how the cue card guy screwed up installing his dishwasher, but not meaning it as a joke? Like you don’t screw with peoples livelihood.
Like if you had a glass instsall company, and some of your employees did a sloppy job on your personal shower door, you might have a talk with them, implement an improvement plan, etc because it affects clients experiences. What you wouldn’t do is put them on blast for views. And that’s only because it’s relevant to their actual work. Last I checked LTT doesn’t offer install services.
@2tone, Spiritfarer (https://thunderlotusgames.com/spiritfarer/) is pretty dang good and visually would be awesome for a younger kid. Visually it’s probably some of the best to watch. Just be aware it’s thematically about death. It’s very sweet and wholesome, but you might get some heavier questions about it. There’s a lot of stuff that might go over her head but will gut punch you. Could be a great way to have those conversations but, you know, sometimes it’s a long day.
On the other end of the spectrum, overwatch is free to play and the roster is crazy diverse. That’s actually the game where it “clicked” how important that was for me. Games in a rough spot, but there’s still fun to be had time to time.
edit: if you want to give em Nightmares, Prey (2016). Pro: A strong female protagonist in a STEM field! Con: They’ll never go into a STEM field because they think you’ll be eaten by monsters.
edit: Maybe fallout 4? It’s Bethesda so the combat animation is about as visceral as a cartoon. An RPG could be fun because you could ask them where they want to go etc. Plus: It’s got a dog.
Fantastically helpful and really helping my learn the system. Thanks a ton!
That makes sense. I’ve been looking at upgrading the card on my usual desktop (current card is a GeForce GTX1060 3GB). If I can find a deal on something non-nvidia I’ll get something directly for the plex box though.
I had banked on all of that RAM and processor headroom being able to have it function well as a server despite the graphics card (and it did a good job encoding and sending OUT streams), but I’m still learning what does what in this whole chain. Thanks for all your help!
they were indeed both direct playback, but it’s resolved(ish)! Take a look below.
Update: I adjusted the settings in the HTPC client to force a lower quality (the TV that’s hooked up to is only 720p anyway). Smooth as butter. I think it was definitely what you were saying and forcing a conversion was a good workaround.
To anyone else who’s reading this and me see a related issue in the future: I also have an issue on this box where I can’t get my display to output at the actual resolution of the TV. The system insists on outputting 1080p, and when I manually adjust the display settings it goes black.
It works fine for some reason though. I mention for future folks because I suspect (based on the above input) the HTPC client may be taking cues from the system setting, which is wrong.
In any event, the HTPC might still think it’s outputting to a 1080p display but with the forced conversion it’s operating just fine. THANK YOU.
edit: I wanted to add I had done this from the menu available while watching a video, and it didn’t work. I had to do it at the main settings with no playback going.
This would definitely make a ton of sense! I don’t know how to validate but that’s exactly what it seems like.
Im running a dell precision 5810 with an nvs 310 for graphics and 64gb of ram. Using plasma as a DE if that trips anything up.
FO4 is why I waited and ultimately didn’t buy starfield. I LOVED elderscrolls, and FO:NV is like my alltime favorite. I didn’t hate FO4, there’s some fun to be had, but you can see pretty clearly from it where FO:76 came from. From what I’ve seen and read, I’m not missing anything with starfield.
NMS is tough. They did an amazing job trying to salvage it, but it will always be a game that was never meant to be that big. It’s not bad but at somepoint in the loop you just go “wtf am I doing?”. I give that team all the credit in the world, but that game never belonged where it is.
