I mean, they don’t have to release the source code. A compiled version would be fine.
it’s unrealistic to assume it would exist forever.
Older multiplayer games would let you self-host the server, long before the current trend.
Ubisoft doesn’t have to continue to host servers. They just have to release the server code. Zero cost to them.
It won’t
But nowhere close to the human eye’s dynamic range…
It’s private equity. So presumably they have more discretion around buy backs than public stocks.
I’m pretty sure China is the biggest EV market. There just simply aren’t enough people in Sweden.
The population of Sweden is 10M. A little bit more than the population of metro Chicago.
As a percentage of population, EV adoption is extremely high. But the ceiling for the EV market is nothing compared to China.
God damn it Google.
When I turn on the TV, it’s fine if the masthead is a banner advertising a new show. I’m literally using the product to find things to watch.
But fast food? That can fuck right off.
If personal data is for sale, the NSA should buy it. Like, it’s negligent not to, because they need to know what exactly is being sold in these markets. It’s not about spying on the people in the data, it’s about knowing the market and who has access to what.
The problem isn’t that it was bought, it’s that it was sold.
We need to dismantle the data brokerage industry.
So HP is either malicious or incompetent
Why not both!?

$4.01 in July 1976 is $21.61 in October 2023.
This summer, at Electrify America in Erie PA, I recently paid $0.35 / kWh. And at Electrify Canada in Hamilton ON, I paid $0.57 CAD / min, which is $0.23 CAD / kWh at 150 kW.
This is roughly on par with the cost of gasoline, per mile. I assume the margins are pretty thick for Electrify, because household electricity costs less than a third of that.
For example, say it costs $0.35 / kWh. At 3.5 miles / kWh, that’s $0.10 / mile.
For comparison, say gas costs $3.50 / gallon. At 30 miles / gallon, that’s $0.12 / mile.
But all those reposts on Reddit and Lemmy are still fair game…
I’m not sure it means the apps will be interoperable, only that the protocol for sharing keys will be standardized.
I highly doubt that we will see any kind of standardization in the actual messaging protocols in the next 10 years.
Will it support MLS? (I still don’t quite know the relationship between Double Ratchet and MLS)
Why not Matrix?
The EU gave Google an option: pay or take down the content. The latter option was a bluff, and Google called them on it.
I don’t think this will hurt Google at all.
But it will certainly drive less traffic to these news sites if they are banned from Google. And that will hurt the news sites.
