  • Except no, he doesn’t. He twists facts and lies about them to further his own agenda.

    He pretends that activism to keep the internet open and free is somehow bad and evil and that there aren’t other groups doing the exact same sort of lobbying, but to kill the open and free internet.

    This is a quote from the actual audit;

    Established in July 2003, Mozilla Foundation (the Foundation) is a California not-for-profit
    corporation that exists to improve and protect the internet as a public resource by working
    with thousands of volunteers to 1) keep the internet a universal open platform and 2) promote
    continued innovation on the internet. The Foundation supports the development of open-
    source, standards-compliant, free internet applications useable free of charge to hundreds of
    millions of users. It also a) develops foundational technologies that can be used to build the
    values of openness and interoperability into the internet; and b) fuels the movement for an
    open internet through educational work that connects open internet leaders with each other
    and mobilizes grassroot activities around the world. The Foundation is headquartered in San
    Francisco, California.

    This rightwing jackass is pretending that the entire goal of Mozilla, their history of internet activism, is new and dangerous and not something they’ve been doing since 2003.

  • Instead, they’re trying to keep governments around the world from banning the internet.

    Think of all the really stupid laws to govern the internet that have been written by people who don’t understand the internet. Then add in that Apple Google, Facebook, and every other major player in the space are pushing for laws to hurt their competitors, regardless of the damage it does to the open internet.

    And Mozilla is one of the few organizations out there that says, “hey, let’s just have an open and free internet”.

  • This rightoid lunatic is complaining that the Mozilla foundation is living up to their mission statement. From the report;

    The report is kind of dry, and only really lays out numbers. There’s no boiled down conclusions, but the numbers look good. The assets outweigh the liabilities.

    I’m struggling to find anything in the report that’s bad, or good. As I said, there don’t seem to be any conclusions at all, just raw numbers.

  • Musk has sure as hell set Twitter up to suffer quite a bit. It’s a train wreck in progress, but to the uninformed layman it just looks like Musk fucking shit up with little actual blowback.

    The reality of Twitter is that it’s royally fucked, it’s just taking a while for the debt to build up to the point where it all falls apart. I expect a complete death of the company before November 2025. Just based on the debt load that Musk saddled the company with.

    Reddit showed that they don’t care about their community or their volunteer mods, and lost most of the best moderators. That train wreck is coming, but might take a few years. Their IPO is coming, and they will do something that pisses off the community more when it does. I don’t expect a fast death, or a complete death, but the IPO will definitely hurt more than it will help.

    Meta keeps getting fined by various countries, and keeps plugging along. Their Threads app is not quite taking off, but it doesn’t need to… A shit company that will likely be around for at least another decade. After that, predictions become meaningless.

    Google is trying to do a web DRM to get rid of adblockers. I expect a massive EU fine in the future, and then they will quietly continue being evil. They really shouldn’t have gotten rid of that motto.
