You’re completely missing the point. Making money doesn’t change the legality. YouTube was threatened by the RIAA before they even started showing ads. Displaying an image from a copyrighted work on an AI platform is not much different technologically than Voyager or even Google Images displaying the same image, and both could also be interpreted as “feeding you unlicensed content from others.”

Either this is complete bullshit or HP is over-engineering completely unnecessary vulnerabilities into their hardware. There’s no reason why a dumb ink cartridge (no DRM) would need any ability to send data to the printer other than very short messages (like a few bytes at most), so it should not be possible for an ink cartridge to give the printer a virus unless this vulnerability is the direct result of the new DRM-tracking additions.

So HP is either malicious or incompetent, and regardless of which it is, I can’t see myself trusting another of their products ever again.

Yeah, I get that part, but it doesnt change the fact that using the word for a mandated update is lazy and wrongheaded on the part of the NHTSA. Rather than use a different and more correct word, they are just shoehorning it in and leading people to the wrong conclusion.

That’s not really an accurate definition. A recall is a public call to RETURN a product that is defective. There is nothing being returned with a software update.

Rockmelt is a fork of Chromium, not a fork of Chrome. Same with Maxthon. Both Chromium and Chrome are maintained by Google, but Chromium is open-sourced while Chrome is not.

And it may be illegal in some states to not offer the customer an actual refund.

This title is so misleading. France hasn’t banned the device, and the radiation levels could likely be fixed with a software update. French officials have stated that they may prohibit sale and issue a recall IF Apple doesn’t respond to their request. The article says as much:

France’s junior minister for the digital economy, Jean-Noël Barrot, told newspaper Le Parisien that a software update would be able to address the radiation issues linked to the iPhone 12. Apple has two weeks to respond to France’s request, if it fails to do so, Barrot stated that he is prepared to issue a recall of the device, which went on sale in 2020.

Also, why the hell did it take French agencies 4 years to test this device? Even if Apple says they won’t update the phones and is forced to stop selling them, taking a 4 year old phone off the market won’t really hurt them in any way.

Sure, that’s the sensationalist and reactionary headline, but I think the real lesson to learn from all this is that with remote work, like many things, moderation is key. The CEO is not implying “innovation” and “getting to know each other” is necessary for every meeting because it isn’t. So what he’s really saying is whenever those two aspects are necessary, Zoom won’t suffice.

You could maybe use AI to design a bunch of variations on one design with the same or less building cost.

In general, are you a fan of Le Corbusier buildings designed by humans? If you aren’t, you may be blaming AI for not liking the architect’s style. I ask because IMO the AI really nailed his style, but it’s d finitely not for everyone.
