This is one reason I love test driven development. Once you have the solution, there’s somehow never time to write tests. If you write the tests first, then find the solution, there is somehow time to write them.

Spreadsheets are such a killer app.

Anybody know a good TUI spreadsheet app that can import and export csv, or even just a TUI csv editor? I have been unable to find one.

About 5 or 6 years ago I interviewed a girl who had been working on that tech, and it stunned me that the suspicions folks like me had were being verified by a software engineer that had worked on the feature. I want to say that looking back may naïveté seems quaint, but it’s still terrible and unbelievable that most companies spy on all their users’ communications and lifestyles at literally every opportunity.

Chill out, I already had enough reasons to not use those sites.

My go to for home servers for like 20 years has been used dell optiplexes. They are quite reliable, easy to find, pretty cheap, come in a few different standard physical sizes, and last a long time. The one thing they could do better at is energy efficiency. I spent a total of US $450 on the last two that I bought. I added an LSI HBA to one and it runs 4 HDDs in raidz1.

Corporations have one goal: making money.

Right behind that is self preservation, which is in full service of continuing to make money.

If corporations show that they care about you, it is in service of you making money for them. They do not care about you, they care about money. You have to make an effort to look out for yourself, and for your team mates that you care about. Make sure you and your close team mates are not being overworked, because the company will not do so unless they are forced to or unless they think that doing so will make them more money.

There’s something very Darwinian, very artificial selection about this.

IMHO everybody should have multiple browsers for day to day work. It’s been this way for over a decade. Have a default and then have side browsers that have their strengths. For the Apple ecosystem, Safari is still the best default imho. Firefox is my number 2. I try to avoid anything Google related but use brave if I need web usb.

When I moved to Silicon Valley the HR guy at my company was an old hippie who looked out for people. He told me the silicon valley way to get a raises is to tell your company that you have decided to take another job because it pays more, and you don’t want to leave, but you have personal obligations like your girlfriend being pregnant that mean you have to take a higher paying job. Then if they don’t give you a raise you find a new job that will.
