Politicians can do it. Companies can’t. It’s ridiculous. We have the laws in place. Just remove the exemption. Same with political advertising. Lots of exemptions that don’t pass the smell test.

hitmyspot@aussie.zoneto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Donald Trump threatens to stop Barbie dolls being sold in USEnglish7·8 hours agoThe mattel CEO said they won’t be moving production to the USA, but they might move it outside China if the tariffs becomes a big issue.
What this would be, is punishment for protected speech, given corporations are people.
So, although I don’t really care about mattel, as a multi billion dollar corporation, it matters as it is further erosion of people’s rights with little pushback while the constitution becomes more meaningless.

Here in Australia, we have laws against spam texts and so we seem to get much less than America does. Guess who exempted themselves? Politicians. So stupid. They just annoy everyone and it’s not like it helps them to keep it legal. If it’s illegal for them, it’s illegal for their competitors, so it would come out in the wash.
But from them, not others. Right? Right?

What is concerning is that despite a third of the electorate rejecting the major two, they still get majority governments. Maybe we should be looking at proper proportional representation, given voting is required.

I don’t mind the windows button. It’s effectively a quick way to a run command.
Jokes on them. Catholics believe its no longer wine and wafers. Checkmate fascists.

It had a real community feel and had deeper discussion of politics than news in general. There is an argument to be made that all news is political, but really, there is more of a focus on political discussion.
I don’t know if there just isn’t enough people here to support the focus, however, I don’t find the duplication or cross posting and issue. Sometimes different angles come up in different communities.
I would think news communities should be topical but the Australia community would not need to be, being open to nostalgia posts or general discussion.
Is there a specific issue you are trying to fix or is the duplication the issue?

So, yes, I expect them to rise, probably by quite a bit, but I don’t think hyperbole about killing Christmas is helpful.

They are a similar price to when I was a child. Obviously, that’s due to cheap labour and globalisation, but I don’t think it’s going to kill Christmas. I’d be much more worried about human rights than inflation.
