I have servers on Digital Ocean and Linode and also one in my basement, and have had no problem. I do have all services behind NPM (not to suggest it’s a panacea) and use HTTPS/SSH for everything. (not to suggest HTTPS/SSH are either) My use case could be different than yours - my immediate family are my only consumers - but have been running the same services in those locations for a few years now without issue.

This one never really gets old anymore.

They are the worst of the worst, and I will never use an instance that voluntarily federates with Threads. I respect MS more than Meta, and that’s a pretty incredible feat on the part of Meta.

I have been on the firefox train since it was new. I witnessed the rise of Chrome and Chromium, and never really felt the pull, and worried about everyone targeting the same platform. Figured I’d stay on FF until I had no choice. Don’t see myself leaving.

Why would they ever stop with their ridiculous bullshit? As far as I can tell they get no pushback from users because the masses just roll blissfully along, and the tech-knowledgeable who still use Windows just find out how to disable the things they don’t like, shrug, and move along.

FYI -

• You need to bear with it through the usual S1 growing pains
• By today’s standards it’s almost unbearably 90s, especially during the first season (IMO)
• It really does get great.
• It made me cry at least a few times.

SG-1 was a great mixture of comedy and drama in sci-fi IMO, and while it’s not my very favorite franchise, it’s easily top 10 for me. If you haven’t seen it before it’s worth your time for sure!

I used up all my hate when Apple did it. I still think Apple lied about their reasoning (waterproofing and space), which pisses me off more than the other complaints, many of which I also agree with. (some of those reasons were even more valid when considering the overall state of the tech at the time)

However, at this point a big portion of the market has adjusted and accepted (to varying degrees), and that first change is so far in the past that I don’t know that I can muster up a lot of hate for mfrs who are taking away headphone jacks today when instead of upending the market they are following market trends.

Having said that, I’d be willing to bet that a larger than typical percentage of Fairphone purchasers would really like to have a headphone jack.

After however many years I finally joined two discord instances for some niche topics where community was hard to find elsewhere.

I haven’t used IRC in a few years I admit, but I’m a few months in with discord, and so far it has never stopped feeling like IRC with a confusing interface, a gaudy new coat of paint, and emojis everywhere.

I have no idea why it’s seemingly the ONLY place anyone wants to create an interactive community anymore for so many things.
