I mean they’re just resellers of the big guys’ network. I think Mint is a reseller of T-Mobile. Verizon has its own branded reseller labels. It all goes through the big guys’ network anyways so could they even claim that?

The Microsoft tech support guys have been very helpful with my Linux laptop though, and I feel that I can trust them.

I mean I’ve definitely seen signs at checkout lines at grocery stores. I’ve also been asked when buying large amounts of gift cards what my reason for buying them was (in a very kind way, I would add).

I would recommend Fastmail. They have a fantastic app that I prefer over the iOS mail app.

I have not tried it, but I’ve heard good things about bazzite as a good steam deck clone that has a strong community committed to Nvidia support.

I’m not gonna comment on the Linux portion because you seem quite passionate, but both Libre Office and Open Office are cross platform apps. So they’ll work just fine with your OneDrive / Dropbox / Backblaze / whatever to give you the wonderful fully cloud synced experience on either Windows or Linux.

I’ve got Fastmail set up for myself (more tech savvy) and for my wife (it needs to ”just work” and easy like Google), and I’d say it’s a solid balance between wanting to do a bit more with the email and a rock solid just works email. At $5/mo (or $50/yr) per user, it’s not cheap, but I think the service is quite good and I’ve been extremely happy with the service provided. I also never have issues with SMTP access for my home server, I don’t think my mail has ever been sent to spam for any of my family or even sending reminders to my work email.

Their iOS app has also replaced the default / native iOS mail app because it’s just that good, which is a nice plus.

This is definitely the way to do it long term. I’ve used a hybrid download + VPN client but in the end I moved to a split gluetun + client since it offers the best flexibility.

When the old school RuneScape wiki moved to a self hosted solution it was night and day the quality difference. I’d argue that OSRS (and probably regular RS) have some of the best wikis in gaming.
