  • “It’s not my fault for spreading misinformation, hysteria, and making overt moves to oppress others. It’s your fault for not stopping me.”

Validating and correcting information takes time, research, and evidence. Spewing garbage only requires a mouth and optional amplification.

Bullshit is impossible to stop this way because it travels faster than the corrections. By the time the crap is addressed, there are people who will still believe it in the face of evidence and in defiance of reality, and in the meantime, six more pieces of bullshit to debunk have popped up.

  • Damn, sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself and remember no job is worth your health. Leave if you can. I’ve been there and I fucked off when I realized they were literally killing me (high blood sugar, long hours, and fell asleep driving home, turned in my resignation the next workday).

  • The same thing seems to be happening with regard to regular citizens and ICE raiders, and I’m here for it.

Agreed, I love to see it.

I’ma homebody and live in bumfuck where thankfully almost nothing ever happens, but I’ve signed up for an action newsletter for news and information on how I can help, and I do my part to donate locally to my food bank and other things I care about. Dunno that it helps with the current state of things, but it’s something. Hopefully more opportunities to help in the future as I hate this draconian shit going down.

Apologies for misunderstanding your comment, that’s on me.

I can do the above, and what I don’t know I can figure out. I’ve been at this for a long, long time. That’s not the point. I’d be asking why migrating our infra every other week is an effective use of technical resources and how this benefits the business.

We’re not in this industry just to play with the tech, there are actual business goals and costs to consider.

Please take your ego down a notch.

It’s not a good idea to “yes man” every ask without consideration for long term supportability.

What you mentioned isn’t the mark of a good admin, just one with a technical skill set that doesn’t question methodology at the whims of management. This eventually leads to poor planning, large tech debt, and burnout.

Question: I’m not one for protesting and marching in the street. I’m sure it matters, but I’m introverted and large crowds make me very anxious. I also have health condition that needs regular management and live in the rurals, most of my time is spent at home. What can I do to actually help?

I already donate to causes I care about regularly, such as my local food bank, wikipedia, NPR, and PBS. Is there something else I can or should be doing? I hate what’s happening to the US right now, but I don’t feel like I have much, if any power to do anything about it or help, outside of donating to charitable causes.

  • Yes. mid-40s, no kids, and I work from home.

Wife and I play RPGs on the weekends (currently enjoying Last Epoch and waiting for the next Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader DLC), and during the week I usually play single player games (right now in the middle of Lies of P and Fire Emblem: Awakening).
