  • It seems it was part of the solution!

When I tried to install it using install.sh I got the message that it was already installed.

I had a look at dmesg and found the following entries:

    [ 1634.510594] xone-dongle 3-2:1.0: Direct firmware load for xow_dongle.bin failed with error -2
    [ 1634.510601] xone-dongle 3-2:1.0: xone_mt76_load_firmware: firmware not found
    [ 1634.510604] xone-dongle 3-2:1.0: xone_dongle_init: load firmware failed: -2
    [ 1634.511456] xone-dongle: probe of 3-2:1.0 failed with error -2

Inside the repository I cloned I found an install/ directory with a firmware.sh file in there. I ran that as root and it installed the driver.

I plugged in the dongle again and it worked immediately!

( I looked at what the script did first though ).

    Thanks for the help!

  • It’s Harder to solve than you think. I came upon a documentary a while ago where they go a bit more in depth on the subject and what cheaters can do nowadays.

No company has solved the problem tbh. Even games like counter strike are riddled with cheaters and even on faceit there’s plenty of people that are dodgy AF and likely cheat.

It’s not an easy problem to solve and it is, AFAIK, still an unsolved problem in shooters. So your comment is a bit salty. Might as well claim every game engineer worldwide isnt good at their job because nobody has solved this yet. Not that I’m defending riot.

The rootkit “solution” is complete bullshit. It is completely disproportionate and a massive security/privacy risk. And to top it off it’s not even a solution that’s good enough.

This is the documentary I saw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwzIq04vd0M&

It did remove my appetite for playing PvP shooters for a while.

  • Their infotainment system and app are pretty great compared to some other brands.

I’m currently driving a VW id5 and it’s like they’ve never designed any kind of software interfaces at all. Example:

    • the VW app can tell me the car is unlocked, but can’t lock it for me.
    • it can’t show me the VIN number, even though I had to use it to register it ( it was hidden in my user profile on the site somewhere )
    • I can let it pre-heat and such, but only on two schedules .
    • can’t schedule appointments through the app
    • that weird sliding thingy for switching between speed limiter and cruise control is unintuitive AF
    • every other time I’m driving it’s giving me a pop up saying “there are new updated user settings for your account”. With only an ok and a cancel button. Where are they? What are they? Where can I find them? Did clicking"ok" accept them? Not a clue. When does it show this message that blocks the rest of the UI? After 1 minute of driving.

Not to hate on VW engineers but goddamnit guys. Get your shit together and hire a UX expert. Shortly drove a BMW 1 series before the VW and the infotainment was a lot more practical to use.
