Me loading up A Link to the Past and still having a full memory of every palace, which areas are secrets, which walls make the satisfying clink clink clink, and how to get the Golden Master Sword without having to check GameFAQs:

“Hell yeah. Zelda, go put on your green tunic and let’s go save Link.

To add this for posterity, there is an additional component to the U.S. autoworkers union striking. In 2008 during the global financial crisis (with things like robosigning foreclosures, predatory loans with ballooning interest rates, etc.), some U.S. automakers were asking for government bailouts, which eventually were granted. These bailouts were entirely taxpayer funded. Now the automakers are refusing to meet union contract negotiations. Automakers not paying employees cost-of-living, or frankly, just salary increases is upsetting, but the additional hypocrisy of U.S. tax-paying citizens bailing out these companies with their own money in 2008, and then not having the companies return some of the wealth in 2023 is enraging.

    Edit:

Forgot to add that when the automakers were begging for government bailouts, the automakers had to take away worker pensions and some benefits to “protect the system”. In 2023, the U.S. autoworkers union is fighting to get those benefits back for the workers.

  • Holy crap I had no idea this was announced. What a wonderful game, I can’t wait to play this DLC (no preorders!). Without spoiling anything, I’ve been curious to see what the world is like after the events of the main story. Tales of Arise has a particular ending that raised a few questions and my curiosity. I eagerly await to see what new story Bamco will flesh out.

The man who can’t feel pain, and the woman who inflicts it.

If you haven’t played Tales of Arise (or any “Tales of” game in the series), this one is incredibly emotional and tackles heavy themes centered on liberation. It’s one of my favorite RPGs ever, and not sure if it’s my favorite Tales of, but certainly up there. The second act is a bit long and grindy, but the whole journey, the relationships along the way, and the story beats solidified it. Gameplay differentiation, music, art direction, graphics, etc is also fantastic in my opinion. It’s not a perfect game, but a great game, so I’d consider it a 9/10. Others may disagree because of the lengthy and grindy second act, and that’s okay.

  • Why are we still preordering AAA digital video games from multi-million dollar corporations? There is no incentive to preorder AAA video games anymore - long gone are the days of midnight launches for physical games.

    • Cyberpunk 2077
    • Returnal
    • Forsaken
    • The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
    • Fallout 76
    • Grand Theft Auto: Definitive Edition
    • The Last of Us Part 1
    • No Man’s Sky
    • Etc. ad nauseum

All of these games came with a half-assed apology from the publisher and how “this wasn’t their intention”. Yes, it was absolutely their intention. They released a knowingly broken game and charged us full price for it. They already got our money and laughed because they know we’re too stupid to do anything about it and that they’ve trained us well with “fear of missing out”.

How many times do us gamers need to get burned by video game publishers until we learn our lesson?

Stop rewarding and encouraging their predatory behavior. Opt out of this abusive practice by not preordering and voting with your wallet. Let them earn your money, so “they can feel a sense of pride and accomplishment”.
