You don’t necessarily need it, but if you have a full time job that’s roughly a third of your time. Having a third of your time without social interaction causes you to need an extremely robust social life outside of work to make up for it, throwing things off balance.

For me, over the years having no connection with anyone at work has actually been detrimental and led me to seek an in office job.
It wasn’t the only factor but it was definitely one of them. Humans are social creatures at the end of the day.

For me, this was the Total War series, particularly the first Rome Total War. I remember my history teacher asking if anyone could point to Carthage on a map and I was the only one in the class who had any idea.

I think a lot of the negative energy comes from folks that lack experience, and maybe are stuck in an office wanting to work from home. It definitely has its upsides, but it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows!
I feel the exact same way after working from home for the last five years. The disconnection and pointlessness along with the reduced physical activity and terrible company corporate culture have actually resulted in me seeking out a job in an office again.
I think it may be better for mental health and physical health, depending on the company and their culture.

I have a “midsize” SUV and went on vacation with seven people, and it could hardly hold all of us even with a luggage rack on the hitch. We rented a minivan at our destination, and it EASILY fit all seven people and luggage with room to spare and was more comfortable. It also was a hybrid and got > 30mpg. Definitely wanting to rethink that SUV purchase now.
